What is Colour Analysis?

Colour analysis is a professional assessment that identifies which colours best suited to an individual’s natural features—such as skin tone, hair colour, and eye colour—to enhance their overall appearance. By understanding which hues harmonise with your unique complexion, you can curate a wardrobe and beauty routine that elevates your style, boosts confidence, and ensures a polished, cohesive look.

Many people are unaware that a professional colour analysis is an investment that leads to significant long-term savings. By understanding your ideal colour palette, you can make more intentional wardrobe choices, eliminating unnecessary purchases and reducing impulse buying. This ensures that every piece you add to your wardrobe complements your natural features and seamlessly integrates with your existing style, ultimately saving both time and money.

The History of Colour Analysis

The concept of colour analysis dates back to the early 20th century when artists and designers began exploring how colour theory could be applied beyond painting and interior design. Johannes Itten, a Swiss painter and art teacher at the Bauhaus school, was one of the first to recognise that certain colours naturally harmonise with an individual’s natural colouring.

In the 1980s, Carole Jackson’s book Color Me Beautiful popularised seasonal color analysis, categorising individuals into four main groups—Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter—based on their skin undertones, hair, and eye colour. This approach revolutionised personal styling, helping people choose clothing, makeup, and accessories that enhance their natural beauty rather than working against it.

Today, modern colour analysis has evolved into a more refined and detailed system, often dividing the original four seasons into 12 or even 16 subcategories, offering a highly personalised approach to colour selection.
